What is Number Verify?

Number Verify is Authsignal's carrier-based Number Verification capability for confirming possession of a mobile number without asking the customer to enter an SMS OTP. Depending on the network and implementation, verification can use network based (Silent Network Authentication) or SIM card based methods.

Instead of relying on a code being delivered, retrieved and entered, Number Verify can confirm phone possession as part of the authentication journey. It can also be orchestrated alongside passkeys, biometrics, risk signals and other authentication methods when greater assurance is required.

Verify customers without adding another step

Strengthen phone verification

Remove the OTP interaction from eligible journeys, reducing exposure to phishing and social engineering attacks that rely on convincing customers to share a code.

Reduce authentication friction

Remove the need for customers to wait for a text message, switch context and manually enter a code.

Improve verification reliability

Reduce dependence on SMS delivery for eligible journeys, avoiding delays or failures caused by a code not arriving when the customer needs it.

Build better mobile journeys

Use Number Verify during onboarding, login or step-up without automatically introducing another visible authentication interaction.

How Number Verify works

iPhone Mockup
1

Start the verification

A customer enters or uses their mobile number during an authentication journey.

2

Verify phone possession

Number Verify uses the available Number Verification method for that network and implementation, which may include Network Based (Silent Network Authentication) or SIM Card based verification.

3

Receive the result

If verification succeeds, the customer can continue without receiving or entering an SMS one-time passcode.

optional

Route to another method

If Number Verification is unavailable or the journey requires greater assurance, Authsignal can introduce another authentication or verification method based on your rules.

Three ways to use Number Verify

01

Replace an OTP step

Use Number Verify instead of SMS OTP for eligible phone verification journeys.

02

Add a possession signal

Confirm that a customer has access to the mobile number associated with an account or transaction.

03

Use it as part of adaptive authentication

Combine Number Verify with risk, context and other authentication methods to determine what happens next.

Where it fits in the journey

Customer onboarding

Verify phone possession without adding another OTP step to sign-up.

Login authentication

Use Number Verify as a low-friction possession check during eligible mobile login journeys.

Step-up authentication

Add phone possession verification for sensitive actions without immediately introducing another visible challenge.

Account recovery

Use phone possession as one signal within a broader account recovery journey.

Phone number verification

Confirm access to a mobile number without relying on an SMS code.

SMS OTP migration

Introduce Number Verify into existing authentication journeys as part of a broader move away from SMS OTP over time.

One more method in the rules engine you already use

Number Verify is not a standalone product. It is another verification method inside Authsignal's authentication and orchestration platform, governed by the same rules engine, the same flow builder, and the same adaptive policies that already control your passkeys, biometrics, OTP, and push verification.

Drop in, no need to rebuild

Add carrier-based Number Verification to existing journeys without replacing your identity stack. No migration needed.

Rules decide when it fires

Apply logic based on risk, device, geography and carrier eligibility to decide when a journey uses Number Verify.

Fallback is part of the flow

Passkeys, push, biometrics and SMS OTP are alternatives when Number Verification is unavailable or another method is more appropriate.

One layer of visibility

Number Verify events sit alongside your other authentication events, so you can see what happened and why.

Powered by global network connectivity

Authsignal delivers Number Verify in partnership with Aduna, bringing carrier-based Number Verification into the Authsignal platform. By aggregating standardized carrier APIs through a common CAMARA-based layer, Aduna reduces the need for businesses to build and manage separate integrations with individual mobile networks.

Number Verify is available across 10 countries globally, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Brazil, Netherlands, Spain and India. More countries will be supported as carriers are added.
