New Authsignal capability brings Number Verification to millions of US mobile connections, with availability also extending to Australia through Telstra
Authsignal today announced the launch of Number Verify in partnership with Aduna, bringing Number Verification into the Authsignal platform across major carriers in the US, as well as Australia.
Number Verification lets businesses confirm possession of a mobile number without requiring the customer to receive or enter an SMS one-time passcode. Depending on the network and implementation, this can be delivered through Network Based (Silent Network Authentication) verification or SIM Card based verification.
SMS OTP has done an important job for authentication. But the security environment around it has changed, and businesses now have the option of Number Verification, balancing security with a customer experience that does not get in the way.
That shift is also showing up in security guidance. NIST SP 800-63B-4 classifies authentication using the public switched telephone network, including SMS-based authentication, as a restricted authenticator. Organizations using restricted authenticators are required to make an unrestricted alternative available and plan for the possibility that restricted methods may no longer be acceptable in the future.
Number Verification offers another path. Instead of asking the customer to enter a code, Number Verification can confirm possession of the mobile number as part of the authentication journey. It is not a faster way to deliver a code. It removes the code from the interaction altogether.
For high-volume digital journeys, that can mean fewer interruptions for customers and less dependency on SMS delivery, retries and failed-code support.
"Regulators are already moving past SMS and businesses relying on it are inheriting a risk that only grows with scale. Number Verify removes the one-time passcode from the journey entirely. Combined with passkeys and adaptive authentication inside Authsignal, businesses can match the verification method to the risk.” - Paul Bickley, VP Revenue, Authsignal
Aduna provides access to the underlying network data via a single platform, incorporating signals from major telecommunications providers. The company launched Number Verification capability across three carriers in July 2026, creating unified access across the major US mobile networks.
With Aduna’s Partnership, Authsignal provides a single point of integration for the Number Verification service. Rather than building separate carrier integrations and then creating the experience around them, businesses can use Number Verify within the same Authsignal risk logic, orchestration and fallback paths as their other authentication methods.
"Digital trust depends on making secure experiences simple. Through our partnership with Authsignal, businesses can now access trusted, carrier-backed Number Verification across the major mobile networks in both the United States and Australia. Together, we're helping organisations strengthen security, reduce fraud and deliver more seamless digital experiences at scale." - Anthony Bartolo, CEO, Aduna
The partnership also extends Authsignal’s Number Verification footprint internationally, including availability in Australia, as Aduna’s network API ecosystem continues to expand.
For Authsignal, the opportunity is not to replace SMS OTP with another fixed default. It is to give businesses more authentication building blocks, then use the right one for the customer, journey and level of risk.
